this was an idea straight out of my notebook. i thought it was funny at the time, and i still do. i have a sick sense of humour though.

i love drawing bricks. i love the pseudo-druglike combination of focussed attention and mindless repetition.

i love the actual act, too. for me, it would be completely pointless instructing an ai to fill a page with bricks printed with the word LAYERS. it wouldn’t mean anything. the act of drawing it gives it meaning.

and i don’t say that because i hate ai, because i don’t. it might be our only hope of unfucking up the world. that said, i do have mixed feelings. i’m ambivalent. i’m on the fence.

or, as someone i know once put it: i’m on the middle of the fence.

but i don’t think ai is going to kill art. i still care about drawing, and i don’t think i’m the only one.

ps. i did wonder what to write on the bricks. BRICK perhaps, or WORDS. or PSEUDO. they all seem to work, in their own way.

You simply keep putting down one damn word after the other, as you hear them, as they come to you. You can either set bricks as a laborer or as an artist.
